(Minghui.org) Ms. Fang Jianping, 54, a Falun Gong practitioner in Lanzhou, was arrested on September 3, 2016 and taken to the Lanzhou No. 1 Detention Center.
For refusing the authorities' demands to renounce Falun Gong, Ms. Fang was arrested, detained, and incarcerated for more than 10 years in a prison, forced labor camp, brainwashing center, and detention center.
Ms. Fang and two other practitioners went to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center on February 24, 2006 in an attempt to convince its director, Qi Ruijun, to stop participating in the persecution of Falun Gong. Qi called the police.
The three practitioners were arrested and taken to the Lanzhou No. 1 Detention Center. Ms. Fang was sentenced to eight years in Gansu Women's Prison. She was tortured, forced to watch propaganda videos attacking Falun Gong, not allowed to use the restroom, deprived of sleep, and made to stand for long periods of time, among other abuses.
Her husband divorced her while she was imprisoned, and her son was not accepted into college for lack of proper documentation, which police refused to issue.
Ms. Fang was arrested on April 30, 2001, for putting up stickers about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was given two years in Pingantai Forced Labor Camp.
She had to work in the field during the day and recite camp rules at night. When she refused to recite the rules, she was made to stand the whole night.
A guard once ordered inmates to hang her up by handcuffs. While an inmate read out anti-Falun Gong propaganda, she was not allowed to close her eyes; when she did, the inmate pulled on her handcuffs, causing excruciating pain.

She was also beaten and slapped in the face for speaking with another Falun Gong practitioner.
She was not released as scheduled on May 2, 2003, because she refused to write “repentance, guarantee, and dissociation statements” renouncing Falun Gong.
Ms. Fang was taken to the Gongjiawan Brainwashing Center on May 2, 2003. She was locked in solitary confinement in November 2003. The unheated cell was dark, cold, and humid. She was handcuffed except during mealtimes and at night.
She was hung up by handcuffs for more than twelve days. Her hands and feet became swollen, disabling her.
Ms. Fang was arrested again in 2004 and taken to the same brainwashing center, where she was held in solitary confinement for more than 40 days.
Ms. Fang was arrested when she did the Falun Gong exercises at Central Square in Lanzhou City in March 2000. She was held in the Taoshuping Detention Center for two weeks.
She traveled to Beijing to appeal for the right to practice Falun Gong in May 2000. She was arrested at the Appeals Office and taken back to Taoshuping Detention Center in Lanzhou, where she was held for two weeks.
The police broke into her home in October 2000 and took her to the Qongyuangang Police Station for interrogation. She was held in the Taoshuping Detention Center for 17 days.
After her release from the detention center, she was terminated from her job. The police often harassed her and her family. She left her home in order to avoid further harassment.
Ms. Fang went to Beijing in November 2000 to petition the central government to stop its persecution of Falun Gong. She was arrested at Longxi Railway Station and taken to the Taoshuping Detention Center. She went on a hunger strike to protest her illegal detention and was released several days later.
