(Minghui.org) A perfectly healthy woman in Tongren City has been held in a local mental hospital since May 2014 for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
According to insiders, Ms. Yang Lanzhen, about 40, now suffers from edema, and her face has become deformed. The authorities are deducting 5,000 yuan from her 7,000 yuan salary every month to pay for her “medical expenses.”
Because of the regime’s hate propaganda against Falun Gong, Ms. Yang’s family has long held hostility towards her steadfast belief in Falun Gong. Her husband divorced her in April 2013 and called in police six months later to arrest her, who still lived in the family house at the time to care for her young daughter.
She was detained at a local brainwashing center for more than one month. Though she was allowed to return to work upon her release, the police forced her to live with her sister’s family and ordered her sister, brother-in-law, and brother to keep close watch on her. The three relatives tried everything they could to prevent her from reading Falun Gong books, doing Falun Gong exercises, or contacting other Falun Gong practitioners. They often cursed at her or even beat her for not listening to them.
In May 2014, Ms. Yang’s sister, brother-in-law, and brother claimed that she “had lost her mind” and the police ordered that she be kept in the mental hospital.
