Tianjin Engineer Arrested for Raising Awareness, Lawyer Urges Prosecution to Drop the Unlawful Case

Dec. 10, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Tianjin, China

(Minghui.org) An engineer from Tianjin – Ms. Yang Jian – was arrested by officers from the Meichang Police Station and Wuqing District Criminal Police Team on June 25, 2016.

This was only several months after Ms. Yang was released from Tianjin Women's Prison, where she was incarcerated for five years for putting up small signs about the persecution of Falun Gong.

Her recent arrest was again because she put up similar informational posters. In police custody, they wrapped her up with tape and locked her in an iron cage.

Ms. Yang's attorney read her case file at the Wuqing District Procuratorate and concluded that the evidence was falsified. He reported his findings to the procuratorate. The procuratorate then returned the case to Wuqing District Police Department in early November.

The attorney submitted a Written Statement to Modify Compulsory Measures to the procuratorate on November 7, 2016, asking them not to prosecute Ms. Yang and release her.

Her parents also went to the police department to request her release, but to no avail.

It has been over five months that Ms. Yang has been held at the Wuqing District Detention Center.

Imprisoned for Five Years and Suffering a Mental Breakdown

After Ms. Yang's arrest for putting up small adhesive signs about Falun Gong on September 15, 2010, she was sentenced to five years in prison and sent to Tianjin Women's Prison.

She was beaten and tortured in prison and, as a result, suffered a mental breakdown. Her parents were notified on January 10, 2013, that their daughter had been taken to the prison hospital because of her mental collapse. She was released on November 30, 2015.
