Beijing Man Detained for 7 Days for Trying to Attend Trial of Falun Gong Practitioner

Dec. 22, 2016 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Beijing

(Minghui.org) A Changping District man was detained for seven days for trying to attend the trial of another local man. The man on trial was later sentenced to prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Mr. Wang Youbin, 66, practices Falun Gong, just like the wrongfully sentenced Mr. Sun Fuyi.

Mr. Wang was arrested as soon as he arrived at the courtroom on December 9, 2016. The police body searched him at the Guangming Police Station and confiscated his wallet, bus pass, and belt. They questioned him on how he knew Mr. Sun and how he found out about the trial.

The police admitted to Mr. Wang that it’s not illegal to attend public trials, but they refused to answer when he asked why they still arrested him.

The police next drove Mr. Wang to ransack his home. They took away one copy of Zhuan Falun, a MP3 player, and several copies of Falun Gong materials.

Mr. Wang was sent to Nihe Detention Center in the wee hours of December 10 after having his blood sample forcibly taken.

The detention center guards instigated Mr. Wang’s cellmates to physically abuse him for refusing to answer their questions. The inmates forced him to squat on the floor to eat his meals. To humiliate him, they took away his toilet paper and he had to wipe himself with hands after each bathroom use. They’d laugh at him after he came out of the restroom.

Though every inmate was required to do a night shift, Mr. Wang was always given the longest shift every day.

Mr. Wang was released on bail seven days after his arrest.
