(Minghui.org) A Shenyang City resident remains detained following her arrest for suing former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for ordering the persecution of Falun Gong. The police officer in charge of the case used various excuses to avoid her family as they sought her release.

Ms. Zhao Xiuli, 52, was arrested on August 4, 2015. The next four months saw her family try, unsuccessfully, to meet with Liu Yang, an officer from Heping District Police Department’s Domestic Security Office, who was responsible for her arrest.

Ms. Zhao’s family visited Heping District Procuratorate on December 12 and learned that her case had been returned to Heping District Police Department due to lack of evidence.

The family tried Liu again the next day, but couldn’t secure a meeting with him. A colleague in his office answered the family’s phone call. The family told the colleague they were consulting a lawyer and asked him to tell Liu they would try calling the office again.

No one answered the phone when the family called on December 14. The family tried Liu’s cell phone and was able to get hold of him for the first time since Ms. Zhao’s arrest. Liu questioned if they also practiced Falun Gong and blamed them for publishing his cell phone number on Minghui.org. He then hung up.

The family visited the Appeals Office, which called Liu. Liu said they [the police] were still investigating the case. He refused to pick up the phone when the family tried to get in touch with him later.
