(Minghui.org) A mother in Changchun arrived to pick up her son, who was scheduled for release on November 28, only to see him moved to a different detention center for a prolonged incarceration.
Mr. Sun Zhihua was arrested on November 12, 2016 while hanging up a banner bearing messages about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. The police told his family that he’d be released after 15 days of detention.
Mr. Sun’s mother arrived at the Weizigou Detention Center on November 28 to see two officers trying to get him to a police cruiser. She learned that one of the officers was the deputy chief of the local police station.
The deputy chief warned that she was interfering with law enforcement and threatened to arrest her, as she held onto her son and begged to take him home.
The police eventually drove away with Mr. Sun. His mother followed them to the police station, but the deputy chief used various excuses to prevent her from seeing her son.
Mr. Sun finally emerged in the late afternoon, when the police were getting ready to take him to a hospital for a checkup. His mother wanted to talk to him, but was not allowed.
She waited for more than one hour before her son returned to the police station. The deputy chief tried, unsuccessfully, to get Mr. Sun to sign a detention notice.
Mr. Sun was soon transferred to Changchun City No. 3 Detention Center. His mother asked for a copy of the detention notice, but the deputy chief refused to provide the document. It is unclear how much more detention Mr. Sun was given.
