Shen Yun: Upright and Elegant Music

Feb. 21, 2016 |   By Guan Yin

(Minghui.org) “Upright and Elegant Music” is a term used to describe music from traditional Chinese culture. It emphasizes morality and harmony between humanity and nature. Such music carries positive energy that aids in keeping one healthy.

The ancient Chinese character for “music” is very similar to that of “medicine.” And both music and medicine are believed to have healing powers and can adjust the balance of mind and body.

There are 5 tones in ancient Chinese music: gong, shang, jue, zhi and yu. Each is related to one of the 5 elements of nature - metal, wood, water, fire and earth.

The “gong” tone is related to the earth, so it has effects on the spleen and stomach. Listening to music with “gong” tones can strengthen the health of the spleen and stomach.

The “jue” tone is related to wood and has effects on the liver. Listening to music with “jue” tones thus helps to improve the health of the liver.

Listening to upright and elegant music can harmonize the organs, and thus has healing powers.

Modern music, however, tends to be decadent and noisy, breaking the balance among the organs. Listening to a lot of this type of music may harm the hearing and is believed to negatively affect a person's health.

Most people don't know the inner meaning and healing powers of upright and elegant music, and it is often thus reduced to background music nowadays.

It is fortunate that Shen Yun Performing Arts has brought harmonious and elegant music back to the stage. The music performed by Shen Yun is inspiring. It has profound meanings rooted in ancient civilization, believed to be brought down from the heavens. Such music depicts the meaning of life, the truth of the universe and hope for mankind.

The Shen Yun Orchestra combines the grandeur of a western symphony orchestra with oriental instruments and music, with inspiration from China's 5000 years of civilization.

There have been many reports that audience members' illnesses disappeared after watching Shen Yun.

Besides the music, Shen Yun depicts the best classical Chinese dance, offering a very enjoyable and valuable experience.
