(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Luo Xiaoling was put on trial in the Panyu District Court in Guangzhou City on March 22, 2016, after being detained for about six months. The lawyer hired by Ms. Luo's family demanded a reduced sentence, even though Ms. Luo stated that she was innocent. No verdict was announced at the trial.
Ms. Luo Xiaoling, 58, is retired from the Meizhou City Industrial School in Meizhou City, Guangdong Province. When she went to her son's home in Panyu City to take care of her grandchild, she was reported when she posted Falun Gong informational materials in the Qifuxincun residential compound. Local police illegally arrested her around 9 p.m. on October 8, 2015.
Several officers from the Zhongcun Police Station and the Domestic Security Division ransacked her son's home the following night. They confiscated Falun Gong books, a laptop, informational materials about Falun Gong, and around 7,000 yuan.
The police told Ms. Luo's son, that under a new “criminal law,” effective in August, 2015, one could be sentenced for up to three years in prison for possessing more than 100 copies of Falun Gong truth-clarifying materials, up to five years in jail for more than 300 copies, and for life for more than 1,000 copies.
Ms. Luo was taken to the Panyu Detention Center; her family was not allowed to visit her. Her family hired a lawyer. When she went on trial on March 22, 2016, she looked thin and pale.
Ms. Luo has been persecuted more than once for remaining steadfast in her belief. She was arrested and detained in the Yuemei Detention Center in the Meijiang District of Meizhou City from November 18 to December 5, 2006.
She was arrested on September 4, 2007, and taken to the Meizhou Brainwashing Center, where she was detained from November to December 24, 2007.
Later she was detained in the Yuemei Detention Center for several months.
