(Minghui.org) Today's news from China includes incidents of persecution that took place in 29 cities or counties in 15 provinces. According to this report, 11 Falun Gong practitioners were subjected to mistreatment during their detention, and at least 43 were illegally arrested.

1. [Huinan County, Jilin Province] Four Practitioners Sentenced

Mr. Zhang Jingbo and Mr. Dong Guangwen were arrested and taken to Huinan County Detention Center in early 2015. They were recently sentenced, along with two other practitioners, by Huinan County Court. Mr. Dong was sentenced to a nine-year prison term, Mr. Zhang to an eight-year prison term, Ms. Zhang Jing to seven years, and Ms. Liu Yuxia was sentenced to a two-year term.

2. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Yu Xiaoqing Persecuted

Ms. Yu Xiaoqing is detained at Yaziquan Detention Center. She has developed a serious disease which causes her great pain. Her non-practitioner husband, was also arrested.

3. [Longkou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Yin Guohua Arrested

Ms. Yin Guohua was arrested at home by Domestic Security Division officers, led by Guo Fudui from the Longkou City 610 Office, on May 23, 2016. The police ransacked her home.

4. [Pengzhou City, Sichuan Province] Ms. Chen Wenying Arrested

Ms. Chen Wenying was arrested by officers from the Tangchang Town Government on May 23, 2016, after mailing out informational letters about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was taken to Tangchang Town Police Station.

5. [Dezhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Wang Yanzhi and Another Practitioner Arrested

Ms. Wang Yanzhi and another practitioner were arrested and taken to the Xincheng Police Station in Dezhou City on May 21, 2016, for distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police ransacked their homes. Ms. Wang is still detained but the other practitioner was released.

6. [Mengyin County, Shandong Province] Ms. Guo Zengjuan and Ms. Wang Xiaoxiang Detained

Ms. Guo Zengjuan and Ms. Wang Xiaoxiang were arrested on May 20, 2016, for distributing informational materials about the persecution of Falun Gong. They are being detained at the Mengyin County Detention Center.

7. [Anshan City, Liaoning Province] Ms. Sun Jinjun Transferred to Prison

Ms. Sun Jinjun, after being persecuted to the point of developing a mental disorder, was transferred from the Anshan City Women’s Detention Center to Liaoning Women’s Prison on April 26, 2016.

8. [Benxi City, Liaoning Province] Four Practitioners Detained

Ms. Xie Limin, Ms. Zhou Shuhua, Ms. Feng Qifeng, and Ms. Qin were arrested on May 19, 2016. They are being detained.

9. [Chongqing] Mr. Deng Liping Detained

Mr. Deng Liping was recently arrested for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. He is being detained at a detention center.

10. [Dingxing County, Hebei Province] Ms. Lu Lianxia and Ms. Yang Jinxian Detained

Ms. Lu Lianxia and Ms. Yang Jinxian were arrested by four officers from the Dingxing County Domestic Security Division on May 16, 2016. They are being detained at the Dingxing County Detention Center.

11. [Laizhou City, Shandong Province] Ms. Xu Guangmin and Ms. Liu Xiaozhen Detained

Ms. Xu Guangmin and Ms. Liu Xiaozhen were arrested by officers from the Laizhou City Domestic Security Division on March 14, 2016, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. They were detained at a detention center for 15 days.

12. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Cui Fenglan Detained

Ms. Cui Fenglan was transferred to Harbin No. 2 Detention Center on May 17, 2016.

13. [Laixi City, Shandong Province] Mr. Sun Jianfen and Ms. Zang Liantang Arrested

Mr. Sun Jianfen was arrested by officers from the Laixi City Police Department on May 12, 2016, for posting informational stickers about the persecution of Falun Gong. He was handcuffed and taken to the police department, and released the next day.

Ms. Zang Liantang was arrested by officers from the Wangcheng Police Station on May 27, 2016, for talking to people about the persecution of Falun Gong. She was detained at the Laixi City Detention Center for ten days.

14. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Three Practitioners Arrested

Mr. Li Wande and Ms. Mo Chou were arrested by officers from the Wuhan City Domestic Security Division on May 12, 2016. The police ransacked their homes. Ms. Mo was released due to physical problems.

Ms. Wang Jing, arrested on May 13, 2016, is being detained at the Yangyuan Brainwashing Center.

15. [Jilin City, Jilin Province] Ms. Lin Jun Detained

Ms. Lin Jun was arrested by officers from Xinjilin Police Station on May 17, 2016. The police confiscated her computer and other personal belongings. She was detained at the Songjiang Village Detention Center for 15 days.

Ms. Cai Ziling was arrested in March 2016, for suing Jiang Zemin, the former Chinese dictator. Her whereabouts are unknown.

Mr. Liu Xicai was arrested by officers from the 610 Office and the Domestic Security Division from both Baiyin City and Jingyuan County on May 18, 2016. The police confiscated his computer, a printer, and other personal belongings. He is being detained at a detention center.

18. [Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia] Mr. Jiang Zhiguo Detained

Mr. Jiang Zhiguo was arrested by officers from the Linxi County Domestic Security Division on May 21, 2016, for hanging banners with information about the persecution of Falun Gong. The police confiscated his computer. He is being detained at the Linxi County Detention Center.

19. [Kunming City, Yunnan Province] Mr. Wen Chunfu and Ms. Luo Baixiu Sentenced

Mr. Wen Chunfu and Ms. Luo Baixiu were arrested on September 4, 2015 after they were reported to police for distributing information about the persecution of Falun Gong. Their homes were ransacked two days later.

They were tried on January 7, 2016. Their lawyers defended the two practitioners' rights to freedom of belief, as there is no law in China that criminalizes Falun Gong.

The lawyers also pointed out that the Falun Gong materials confiscated from both practitioners' homes were their lawful possessions, and caused no harm to anyone. Therefore, the items could not be used as prosecution evidence. The judge ignored the lawyers' acquittal request.

The Luodian Court sentenced Mr. Wen to 4 years and Ms. Luo to 3.5 years on April 11, 2016. Both practitioners were also fined, with Mr. Wen ordered to pay 5,000 yuan, and Ms. Luo 3,000 yuan.

20. [Linju County, Shandong Province] Ms. Zhou Guihua Tried at the Second Hearing

The second hearing in the trial of Ms. Zhou Guihua was held on May 16, 2016. Her lawyer defended her constitutional right to practice Falun Gong, and emphasized that the persecution has lacked legal basis from the beginning.

Ms. Zhou also testified for herself, sharing with everyone her positive experience with Falun Gong. She had suffered from terminal diseases in 1997, but her tumors disappeared just a few weeks after she began practicing Falun Gong. She has since been healthy. She pointed out that her practice caused no harm to anyone in society, and that she broke no laws.

The judge adjourned the hearing without issuing a verdict. Ms. Zhou remains detained following her arrest on January 7, 2016.

21. [Nanling County, Anhui Province] Two Practitioners Sentenced

Ms. Ma Xiaohua and Mr. Jiang Ming were each sentenced to three-year prison terms and fined 3,000 yuan for practicing Falun Gong.

Ms. Ma, 54, worked as a nurse in Heilongjiang Province. She moved to Anhui in 2001 to be closer to her daughter's family. She was arrested on July 14, 2014. As she refused to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, the police threatened to keep her behind bars.

Mr. Jiang, 50, is the principal of Angli Foreign Language School. He was arrested the same day as Ms. Ma.

Both practitioners remain at the Wuhu Detention Center following their trial on May 13. It is unclear when they'll be transferred to prison.

Mr. Jiang was sentenced to two years in 2004, and given two years of forced labor in 2002. Ms. Ma was previously sentenced to a total of four years of forced labor.

22. [Hefei City, Anhui Province] Mr. Hu Enkui Arrested

Mr. Hu Enkui, 50, was a middle school physics teacher from Feixi County. He was taken into custody again on May 19 for refusing to renounce his faith in Falun Gong. He is now being held at the Hefei City Detention Center.

His family is extremely concerned about his well being, since he was brutally tortured in the past for his faith. When he was incarcerated at Suzhou Prison in 2003, the guards held his feet against a container filled with boiling water for extended periods of time. His feet suffered second-degree burns, and he was left with permanent injury to his bones, periostitis. Years later he still cannot use his feet normally.

23. [Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province] Ms. Chen Jing Tortured at Jiamusi Detention Center

Ms. Chen Jing has become mentally disoriented after more than four months of repeated interrogation with torture. Her eyes were also injured, and she now has impaired vision. She was arrested on January 21 this year and is currently beign held in the Jiamusi Detention Center.

The police interrogated her on more than 30 occasions. The first ten interrogation sessions focused on physically torturing her. The other sessions focused on weakening her willpower using psychological tactics.

Ms. Chen was forced to drop her lawyer because the authorities declined to approve the lawyer's application to represent her.

24. [Lianyungang City, Jiangsu Province] Mr. Zhang Xiangyang Sentenced

Mr. Zhang Xiangyang was recently sentenced to a three-year prison term for filing a criminal complaint against Jiang Zemin and accusing the former Chinese dictator of launching the persecution of Falun Gong.

Mr. Zhang was arrested on September 15, 2015, and released on bail two days later because of his disability. He was tried on January 7, 2016, and received a court notice on May 17 notifying him of his prison sentence.

He is now in the process of appealing the sentence.

25. [Harbin City, Heilongjiang Province] Four Practitioners Detained

Mr. Liu Hanchao, Ms. Tang Lijuan, Ms. Liu Shuzhen, and Ms. Zhou Yanhua from Xinxing Township were arrested on May 6, 2016. Mr. Liu was detained in the Shuangcheng Detection Center for ten days, while the three female practitioners were held in the Yaziquan Detention Center for seven days. On the way to the detention center, the three female practitioners were taken to the Harbin No. 5 Hospital for physical examinations, allegedly for pregnancy tests.

26. [Beijing] Three Practitioners’ Cases Sent to Procuratorate

Agents from the Tongzhou Domestic Security Division fabricated evidence to frame Ms. Qing Xiuying, Mr. Li Yeliang, and Ms. Xia Hong, who have been illegally held for more than three months.

Ms. Qing’s son went to the police department twice to inquire about his mother’s case. He was told that the case had been submitted to the Procuratorate. The three practitioners’ lawyers contacted the Procuratorate twice and were told that the cases hadn’t yet been filed. It wasn’t confirmed until May 1, 2016 that the cases had been filed with the Procuratorate.

The three practitioners’ lawyers went to the Tongzhou Procuratorate to review the cases on May 5, 2016.

27. [Linfen City, Shanxi Province] Mr. Meng Liqiang Tried

Mr. Meng Liqiang was tried by the Yaodu District Court on April 26, 2016, after being detained for more than eight months. Only five seats were given to Mr. Meng’s relatives and friends for the hearing. Mr. Meng’s wife and parents were not allowed to attend the hearing.

The trial started at 9:30 a.m., but the public prosecutor did not present any so-called evidence. Mr. Meng’s lawyer pleaded against the prosecutor’s testimony and requested that Mr. Meng be unconditionally released.

The judge announced at noon that the trial was adjourned, but without giving a sentence.

28. [Xiantao City, Hubei Province] Three Practitioners Detained

Mr. Liu Xiong, Mr. Hu Fengcheng, and Ms. Yang Dongmei were arrested on April 13, 2016. Mr. Liu and Ms. Yang have been taken to the Qianjiang Detention Center, while Mr. Liu was held at the Banqiao Brainwashing Center in Wuhan, Hubei Province.

29. [Lanling County, Shandong Province] Mr. Liu Wenyuan Transferred to Prison

Mr. Liu Wenyuan, a retired police officer, was arrested with five other local practitioners on January 17, 2015, because they talked to people about Falun Gong. Mr. Liu was sentenced to 18 months of imprisonment one year later. He has been transferred to the Shandong Provincial Prison on May 6. The other practitioners were sentenced to 12 or 18 months of imprisonment.

Mr. Liu was arrested in 2005 and detained in a forced labor camp for three years. In order to force him to give up practicing Falun Gong, the guards abused him and forced him to watch news defaming Falun Gong, and do slave labor for extended periods of time.

30. [Pingdingshan City, Henan Province] Mr. Jiang Junfeng Tried

The Weidong District Court tried Mr. Jiang Junfeng on May 17, 2016. His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf. The judge didn’t announce a sentence. Mr. Jiang is still being held.

31. [Wuhan City, Hubei Province] Ms. Wan Dajiu Appealed

Ms. Wan Dajiu was tried by the Hanyang District Court on April 25, 2016. Her lawyer defended her with a not-guilty plea. The judge ignored her lawyer’s statements, and sentenced Ms. Wan to a four-year prison term, based on the fabricated evidence. Ms. Wan has filed an appeal.

31. [Fuxin City, Liaoning Province] Mr. Hu Zhanting Tried

Mr. Hu Zhanting, 66, was tried by the Haizhou District Court on May 10, 2016. His lawyer entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf, but the court did not allow Mr. Hu to defend himself.

About fifty officers occupied the hearing seats, and only two seats were left for Mr. Hu’s family. His family and relatives were not present. It was said that the lawyer couldn’t reach his family.
