(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Mr. Lian Bo and his wife Ms. Bi Zhongmei live in Hutian Town, Zibo City, Shandong Province. Mr. Lian was illegally arrested on the morning of March 22, 2016 by officers from the Hutian Town Police Station. They ransacked his shop and confiscated two computers, a printer, Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. They also broke into his safety deposit box. Mr. Lian was taken to the Fujia Detention Center and detained for 37 days.
Ms. Bi was arrested that afternoon while she was taking care of her father-in-law in the hospital. The police ransacked their home and confiscated an MP3 player, Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. She was held for 15 days.
Their second-grade daughter was left at home without adult supervision. The family also lost their source of income after Mr. Lian and Ms. Bi were forced to close down their shop at Bainaohui Electronics Market.
After the couple's illegal arrest, Hutian Town 610 Office personnel transferred Mr. Lian's father from the hospital to the Hutian Health Clinic despite objection from the family. The clinic did not provide adequate care for Mr. Lian's father and he fell out of bed one night. He suffered a massive brain hemorrhage and vomited blood.
Personnel from the 610 Office and the clinic were afraid to take responsibility for Mr. Lian's father's condition and told Ms. Bi to care for her father-in-law immediately after she was released from the detention center.
Ms. Bi transferred her comatose father-in-law to Zibo City Central Hospital for emergency treatment. Although a craniotomy and a tracheotomy was performed, the doctor said that the elderly man would be bedridden for the rest of his life. The family's medical expenses have been accumulating.
Mr. Lian's mother was repeatedly arrested for appealing for the right to practice Falun Gong. She suffered a mental collapse after being injected twice with anti-psychotic drugs while held in a forced labor camp. She can no longer care for herself.
