(Minghui.org) Ms. Wang Dongying, 73, a resident of the Baoshan District in Shanghai, was sentenced to three years in prison. Her husband, Mr. Zhan Guanrong, was sentenced to one year. They are both Falun Gong practitioners.
Ms. Wang, Mr. Zhan, and another practitioner, Mr. Gu, were reported for telling people the facts about Falun Gong in Rudong County, Jiangsu Province, on November 11, 2016. They were arrested by officers from the Rudong County Police Department and 610 Office on November 18. Their home was ransacked.
After being interrogated, Mr. Zhan and Mr. Gu were bailed out pending trial. Ms. Wang, who did not cooperate with the officers, was taken to the Rudong County Police Department and then transferred to the Nantong City Detention Center.
The Rudong County Procuratorate approved her arrest on December 29.
The practitioners were tried separately in the Rudong County Court between May 23 and May 25.
Mr. Zhan first appeared in court on May 24, but the presiding judge halted the hearing when Mr. Zhen’s lawyer questioned the legality of the trial procedures. Mr. Zhan was brought back to the court on June 28.
Ms. Wang and her husband received their verdicts on November 1.
