Elderly Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested Again in Jilin Province

Nov. 28, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Jinlin Province, China

(Minghui.org) Mr. Li Chunsheng and his wife Ms. Dou Shufen, both 68, are Falun Gong practitioners in Jiaohe City, Jilin Province. Plainclothes police from the Chang'an Police Station broke into their home and arrested the couple on the morning of October 23, 2017.

The police ransacked the home and confiscated about 40,000 yuan, including about 10,000 yuan in currency with Falun Gong truth-clarifying words written on them. They also took their resident identifications and even their house ownership title. The entire incident was undocumented.

The couple was placed under a five day administrative detention. Mr. Li was released on bail pending trial, and Ms. Dou was placed under criminal detention and taken to the Jilin City Detention Center. Their family members plan to hire a defense attorney.

Entire Family Subjected to Persecution

Mr. Li and Ms. Dou have three children – the oldest son is Mr. Li Yingpeng, the eldest daughter is Ms. Li Hongying, and the youngest daughter is Ms. Li Hongyan. The family of five started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. They have benefited both physically and mentally and have lived by the Falun Gong principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

After Jiang Zemin, the former head of the communist regime, launched the persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, the entire family went to Beijing to appeal for their right to belief. The couple has since been taken to brainwashing centers and illegally detained multiple times. Police have constantly harassed them. Their home was ransacked, and even the television was confiscated because they were unable to pay a fine.

Their son Yingpeng was sentenced to a forced labor and almost beaten to death while being detained in the Huanxiling Forced Labor Camp of Jilin City. His wife divorced him and remarried while he was imprisoned. He gave up the practice out of fear and later turned to Buddhism.

The couple's two daughters were also sentenced to forced labor. They were tortured and brainwashed. His youngest daughter was expelled from college.

Family Benefited from Practicing Falun Gong

Before practicing Falun Gong, Mr. Li's family lived a miserable life. Ms. Dou was in poor health. She had been traumatized in childhood, and her health deteriorated after she married and had three children. She lost her teeth by the age of 38 and also suffered from rheumatic heart disease, stomach problems, and liver pain.

In order to support the family, Mr. Li took a job outside of his hometown. The hard work damaged his health. He came down with tuberculous pleurisy, which caused him to become bedridden and unable to work for three years.

The oldest son suffered from a congenital heart disease that made his heart stop beating sometimes. He was unable to do heavy work.

Soon after Mr. Li started practicing Falun Gong in 1996, his family also began cultivation practice. His wife recovered from her illnesses and returned to work. In fact, the entire family returned to good health, and they lived a harmonious life.

Mr. Li used to be ill-tempered and was not liked by the villagers before he began practicing Falun Gong. He would fight with anyone. Falun Gong changed him into a kind person who was willing to sacrifice for others.

Treating Others With Kindness

Following the standards of the family's faith, they treated others with kindness. Although their neighbors had occupied the couple's land, they did not fight over it. During dry summer seasons, they helped their neighbors irrigate the fields with their own water supply.

The adoptive father of Mr. Li was physically abusive to him when he was young. When the father became sick at the age of 80, his biological son ended up dropping him off at Mr. Li's home for care.
