(Minghui.org) An elderly couple in Beijing has exhibited high blood pressure since their arrest more than three months ago, but the local police have refused to release them.
Mr. Shi Yuanshun and his wife, Ms. Yang Wenying, were arrested at their home on August 25, 2017, for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Their case now rests with Xicheng District Procuratorate.
Mr. Shi and Ms. Yang, both in their 70s, showed symptoms of high blood pressure while being held at Xicheng District Detention Center. Ms. Yang was twice rushed to the ER. The police moved her to Beijing Second Detention Center (which also serves as a medical facility to treat ill inmates) on November 7, and she has since had two more ER visits.
Ms. Yang’s lawyer recently met her at the Beijing Second Detention Center and noted that she appeared very weak and moved slowly. She told him that she was given IV injections for nine straight days. The detention center kept changing her medication, but nothing helped. They also increased the dosage two days before her meeting with the lawyer, and she said her life in the detention center was worse than death.
