Dealing with Conflicts and Self-Interest from the Basis of the Fa

Feb. 13, 2017 |   By a practitioner in Liaoxi

(Minghui.org) I started a new job last year. Within a few months, my performance surpassed that of my manager's. Every project that the company was having difficulty winning came to me, and I succeeded in landing the contract every time.

As time went on, my manager began to steal clients from me. I couldn't take it anymore after a while, and started an argument with him. Not only did he not back down, he said wanted to fire me. He told me that the company could do without me. The owner of the company was present during our argument but did not say a word.

I was very upset. I resented the fact that the owner kept quiet. I wanted to quit. But then I thought, how would I be different from an ordinary person if I quit? I would not be validating the Fa. I had to hold on. I thought of Teacher's poem,

“As a cultivatorOne always looks for one’s own faults’Tis the Way to get rid of attachments most effectivelyThere’s no way to skip ordeals, big or small[During a conflict, if you can remember:]“He’s right,And I’m wrong,”What’s to dispute?” (“Who’s Right, Who’s Wrong” from Hong Yin III)

True enough, conflicts did occur between me, a cultivator, and an ordinary person. That simply means that there must be something for me to look at in myself in order to raise my xinxing.

I apologized to my manager. Things started to change right away. Colleagues were even more friendly to me. The owner praised my conduct, saying that a college graduate indeed was different than someone who was less educated. He told me that I'd joined the company at its most difficult time, that I was able to get the customers that others could not get, and that no one could compete with me in terms of ability. He also said that he wanted to stop the manager from doing outside sales so that I would be the only one responsible for it.

I hesitated. Looking within, I discovered some things in myself. For example, behind my working hard was my attachment to self-interest and being competitive. The manager is very good at socializing with people. He indulged in good food and drink and other worldly pleasures. He was drunk most of the time. I found that I despised him, and I always tried to demonstrate my capabilities and overshadow him. I understood that this was the real cause of our conflicts.

The new arrangement would affect him too much. It might even cost him his job. He had eighty-year-old parents at home to take care of. His wife had left him and he had a son to support. How could I harm him because of my own selfishness?

After thinking it through, I decided to quit. My colleagues felt it was unfair to me: “The company's major customers are all your clients. You've worked hard for the company. You want to give up your good salary!? Aren't you being dumb?” They could not understand. So I told them about Falun Dafa. Only Dafa could lead me to choose to defer when facing conflicts and self-interest. Only Dafa could produce such a change in me.

The owner called me several times to ask me not to be angry at the manager. I told him about Falun Dafa and that I quit because I wanted to follow Dafa's principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance to be a good person and to think of others first. I told him that I was still young and would have no problem getting a new job. The manager was the same age as my uncle. It would be difficult for him to find a new job at his age.

I also told him that the reason I left was not that I was upset with anyone. I just chose to yield. I realized that he and the manager are the ones who went through the hard times in the early stages of the company, and I should respect that. I told him the secret of my success: Use your heart and treat your customer with sincerity.

The owner expressed his admiration: “There wouldn't be any bad persons or any need for prisons if everyone acted like you. We will definitely want you back as a manager when our company expands in the future.”

I have constantly undergone tests of self-interest and fame in the past 10 years since my college graduation. Although it was excruciating each time, I was able to pass the tests as long as I remembered Teacher's Fa. I know the purpose of my coming to this world and that I made a vow.

I feel so fortunate that I learned Falun Dafa and did not lose my direction and get lost in this realm.

Thank you, Teacher for saving me.
