Qiqihar Woman's Ordeal in Labor Camp

Feb. 6, 2017 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Qiqihar Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Zhang Jiqui was sentenced to nine years in prison following her arrest on March 20, 2006. Details of her ordeal after the arrest were reported in 2015. Previously, she had been detained for her belief at a forced labor camp for over a year.

Ms. Zhang still feels the suffering she endured when she recalls her torture at Shuanghe Labor Camp.

Arrested for Drawing up Appeal Letter

After I started practicing Falun Gong in December 1997 all my diseases, including heart disease and back pain, disappeared. Having benefited so much from Falun Gong, I felt obligated to speak out for it when the Chinese Communist Party launched its persecution in 1999.

I became a target for monitoring after I gathered other practitioners to draw up an appeal letter to the government at the end of November 1999.

I was arrested by officers from various police stations and taken to the basement of the Heming Hostel on December 4. I was ordered to stand against a wall while they took notes. I was released three days later after they extorted 3,000 yuan.

Barbaric Tortures in Shuanghe Labor Camp

When I planned to speak up for Falun Gong in Beijing, I was arrested on July 13, 2000 by officers from Tiefang Branch Police Station and Hongguang Police Station. I was sent to Qiqihar No. 2 Detention Camp that evening. I was then illegally sentenced to one year in a labor camp.

On July 29, 2000, I was taken to Shuanghe Labor Camp after two weeks in the detention center.

I was immediately locked in a small cell made out of iron bars. Many other practitioners had been also caged in the small cells inside the same building.

The guards intentionally kept the building windows open and left the lights on. They applied ointment on us which drew mosquitos to sting us.

Tortured by guards and collaborators, I went on a hunger strike to protest the persecution in October. My hands were handcuffed at my back to a bed leg and in a position that I could not squat or stand:

On May 24, 2001, I and other five practitioners were taken to Harbin Drug Addiction Treatment Center. They tried to make us give up our belief. Each of us was isolated in separate rooms.

Several collaborators—practitioners who gave up their belief and now supported the persecution—forced me to listen to slanderous words against Falun Gong every day for more than two months. They also tried to feed me and others unknown drugs. When their efforts failed, we were taken back to the labor camp in August.

I and other practitioners were tortured on October 23, 2001 for resisting installation of a monitoring camera in every cell. I was hung up by the window for more than four hours. The torture lasted until I was released on October 27.

I was constantly harassed and monitored after my release. On October 18, 2003, I was heading home after being out and saw a large team of policemen around my house. I did not return home and have been in hiding since.

Illegally Detained at Qinglongshan Brainwashing Center

I was illegally taken to Qinglongshan Brainwashing Center on May 31, 2013, one day before my scheduled early release from the nine-year prison sentence that began in 2006.

I was detained at the center for 50 days. Although I was sick, the guards tied me to the bed legs, one hand to each leg, and forced me to watch slanderous videos. I was fed with meal scraps every day.
