(Minghui.org) Police in Yingkou City arrested Mr. Fan Xuebin on June 18, 2016 for practicing Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the communist regime in China.
Mr. Fan, 45, has been held in the city detention center ever since. He was forced to do hard labor and not given enough to eat. He would be physically punished if he failed to complete his work.
Mr. Fan’s first hearing took place on February 14, 2017. At his second hearing on June 16 in Zhanqian District Court, his lawyer again entered a not-guilty plea on his behalf.
Previous Arrest and Sentence
This isn’t the first time Mr. Fan has been arrested and tried based on trumped-up charges. His first arrest took place in January 2007. The police took him away from his only family, a mentally disabled older sister.
Mr. Fan was tried on June 20 in Zhanqian District Court. After being tortured for five months, he was severely underweight and disfigured. He could barely walk and had to be carried into the courtroom in handcuffs and shackles. He was sentenced to eight years in prison.
In May 2008, several prisoners who had been ordered to keep an eye on Mr. Fan beat him viciously and broke his ribs. He was hurt so badly that he became bedridden. In October 2009, he was assaulted again and couldn’t walk for a long time.
Mr. Fan was released on January 28, 2015, which means he was arrested again less than two years later.
