(Minghui.org) A woman in Shenzhen was secretly tried and sentenced to prison for talking to people about Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime. Her family didn’t learn of the conviction until they couldn’t find her at the local detention center.
Ms. Liu Yu’e began to practice Falun Gong in 2006 and soon recovered from sinus problems and neurasthenia. She felt compelled to tell people that Falun Gong was nothing like what is depicted by the Chinese communist regime. Her simple act, however, landed her in police custody on multiple occasions, resulting in two terms of forced labor.
Ms. Liu filed a criminal complaint in 2015 against former Chinese dictator Jiang Zemin for initiating the persecution of Falun Gong. Police detained her for 15 days upon learning of the complaint.
Ms. Liu kept talking to people about Falun Gong and was most recently arrested on February 28, 2017. Her family didn’t find out about her whereabouts until more than two weeks later. To date, they have never received formal detention notication from police.
Ms. Liu’s family was also kept in the dark regarding her trial and sentencing. They didn’t discover her conviction until more than one month after the verdict was delivered. They were trying to visit her at the detention center around June when they were told that she had been transferred to prison.
