Liaoning Woman Third Member of Family Sentenced for Belief in Falun Gong

Jan. 15, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in Dalian city was sentenced to three years in prison, becoming the third member of her family incarcerated for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Dong Yufang, her husband Mr. Guo Shuchun, and their son, Mr. Guo Jixiang, were first arrested on September 7, 2015. Ms. Dong was released on bail that night.

Her son was released three days later because of a disability (he has to use crutches). However, the police re-arrested him on December 7, 2016 and sent him to the Zhuanghe Detention Center, where his father was held after the arrest.

Both father and son were sentenced to prison in early 2017, with the father getting 5 years and the son 1 year and 8 months. Ms. Dong has no idea when they were tried, and she hasn’t been provided any documents by the authorities. Her husband is now held at Dongling Prison, and her son at Shenyang City First Prison.

Ms. Dong was taken back into custody on September 28, 2017 but released the following day after she failed to pass the required medical examination for detention. Yet she was sentenced to 5 years in prison on October 31, and her appeal was turned down on December 11.

It remains unclear whether Ms. Dong has been sent to prison as of this writing.
