Twice Given Forced Labor, Shandong Woman Prosecuted Again for Her Faith and Sentenced to 7 Years in Prison

(Minghui.org) A 70-year-old woman in Qijia Village, Shouguang City, was sentenced to 7 years in prison for refusing to renounce Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.

Ms. Guo Xiuqing’s latest sentencing was preceded by two forced-labor terms in the past. During her first forced-labor term, her daughter became so depressed that she jumped into a river and drowned. When Ms. Guo was sent to the local labor camp for the second time, her son was so traumatized that he had trouble staying focused, had a horrific car crash, and became totally disabled.

Ms. Guo was arrested on March 13, 2017, after the local village communist party secretary, Qi Huafeng, reported her to the police for still practicing Falun Gong. Zhang Hongwei and Yang Yigui with the Shouguang City Police Department and agents from the local Jitai Police Station raided Ms. Guo’s home. They confiscated 27,000 yuan in cash and other valuables.

Ms. Guo’s husband wrote to the authorities in Shouguang City, requesting his wife’s release so she could help him take care of their son. He also hired a lawyer to file a complaint against the arresting officers. Only then did the police return the confiscated cash.

Lin Dongming of the Shouguang City Procuratorate signed Ms. Guo’s arrest warrant on April 20. Another prosecutor, Zhu Lianghua, filed the indictment against her.

Ms. Guo appeared in the Shouguang City Court on August 1. Judge Zhang Zhizhong sentenced her to 7 years in prison in late December 2017.

Ms. Guo appealed to the Weifang City Intermediate Court. Judges Ran Qingsong and Liu of the higher court interrogated her in Weifang City Detention Center. They asked if she would admit she was guilty, and she said no.
