Former Municipal Employee Given a Second 5-Year Prison Term for Her Faith

(Minghui.org) A 65-year-old woman in Pingdingshan City was sentenced to 5 years in prison for her efforts to raise awareness of the Chinese communist regime’s persecution of Falun Gong, a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

This is the second time that Ms. Liu Yuxia was given a 5-year prison term. Her employer, the Pingdingshan City Bureau of Price Administration, fired her when she was first jailed in 2006. Her daughter, whose parents had long divorced, was in middle school at the time and relied on other local Falun Gong practitioners for financial support.

Ms. Liu’s latest arrest took place around 7 a.m. on June 22, 2017, after she was reported for distributing a public invitation for people to attend the trial of another local practitioner arrested for his faith.

Ms. Liu refused to disclose her name or answer questions. It took police 12 hours to find out who she was, after they matched her fingerprints with information stored in their database. They proceeded to ransack her home.

Ms. Liu’s daughter locked the door from the inside, but officer Zhao Yunlei kicked it open. He also videotaped the whole process of police searching the home.

He said to Ms. Liu’s daughter before leaving, “I dare you to break the news of us raiding your home to overseas media! I’m not afraid!”

Fan Xiangqian, an instructor of Guangminglu Police Station, oversaw the arrest of Ms. Liu.

Zhang Xiqun, vice president of Xinhua District Court, notified Ms. Liu’s daughter on December 1 that he was assigned to preside over her mother’s case. He called again on December 20 and said that Ms. Liu would be tried two days later.

The details of Ms. Liu’s court hearing on December 22 remain to be investigated. It was learned recently that she has been sentenced to 5 years. She is appealing her case while being held at Baofeng County Detention Center.
