(Minghui.org) Police in Zhongxiang City, Hubei Province beat an 83-year-old man and pushed a woman in her fifties to the ground, causing her to suffer a comminuted fracture in her knee, when they attended a temple fair on the Double Ninth Festival, a traditional holiday for paying respects to the elderly.
Mr. Min Shigao and Ms. Fan Mei were targeted after being reported for distributing Falun Gong informational materials at the fair, on October 17, 2018.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice being persecuted by the Chinese communist regime.
Mr. Min had just finished browsing the fair and was about to leave at around 9 a.m. when four police officers approached him. They took his bag and electric bicycle key, before giving him a savage beating. His hands were injured and bled profusely.
The police pushed him into their cruiser and took him to the Yingzhong Police Station. An officer slammed Mr. Min against the wall and shouted, “I will bury you alive if you don't die (from the beatings).” Mr. Min was released four hours later.
Ms. Fan was still enjoying the fair when Gao Qing, an agent from the 610 Office snatched her bag and pushed her to the ground. He pushed her so hard that he fell on top of her.
Ms. Fan was unable to walk after the fall. When the police took her to the hospital for examination, the doctor found she had a comminuted fracture in her knee. Yet the station chief insisted that she fell on her own and planned to keep her in detention for a few days before letting her go home.
This is not the first time that Mr. Min and Ms. Fan have been targeted for their faith in Falun Gong. Both have been repeatedly harassed and arrested in the past for upholding their belief.
