(Minghui.org) My family and I went on a sightseeing tour in Canada this past October. We visited a National Park, and the Bell Museum. On our way back from the museum, we were stopped by two police officers. We had to pull over so they could see if we were wearing our seatbelts. I was sitting in the back seat and didn't have my seatbelt on, as I took it for granted that it would be okay.
I saw one of the police officers talking to my daughter-in-law in a polite manner, though I had no clue what was going on because I don't understand English. After they finished talking, my daughter-in-law turned around and told me: “They want you to put your seat belt on.” So I engaged my seat belt right away.
In addition, if we hadn't been driving a vehicle with a license plate from another country, we would have been fined for the misdemeanor. They let us go after watching me put the seat belt on.
Soon enough, we were driving on a bumpy road on a hill, which was quite steep. Gazing out the window, I recalled what had just happened. I felt a lot of admiration for the Canadian police officer's kindness and being responsible to citizens and visitors alike.
While we were still in the car, my daughter-in-law began to complain to me: “I have told you before, here the traffic regulations stipulate that every passenger is required to wear a seat belt. You didn't listen to me!”
I began to think: Back home, I never worried about wearing a seat belt when sitting in the back seat of the car. While in Canada, I did the same. I also thought that as a Falun Dafa practitioner, with Master Li and the Fa here, I wouldn't be exposed to anything bad no matter what I did. Then suddenly, Master's words came to mind:
“However, you must treat yourself as a true cultivator, and then you can make it. There was a person who was walking on the street with my book in his hand, yelling, “With Teacher Li’s protection, I’m not afraid of being hit by a car.” That was undermining Dafa. This type of person will not be protected. Actually, a true cultivator would not do such a thing.” (Zhuan Falun, Lecture Three, What Has Teacher Given to Students)
I was shocked. I have practiced Falun Dafa for 20 years and can't count how many times I have read Zhuan Falun, so why didn't I think of this? Giving it more thought, I wondered, “What's the difference between that person mentioned in Zhuan Falun and myself? Didn't I make Dafa look bad?”
I felt regret for not taking Fa-study to heart for a long time. I was only going through the motions without gaining a thorough understanding of what I was studying. Therefore, I hardly enlightened to the principles being taught. As a result, I couldn't hold myself to the Fa's requirements at all times, which resulted in a negative impact on Dafa.
After reflecting on this, I tearfully apologized to my daughter-in-law. It was probably because she saw me cry that she tried to comfort me: “I am not really complaining about you, don't worry, just be a bit more careful from now on. It is for your own safety.”
“It's okay that you blame me. I am really crying for not listening to Master, nor studying the Fa well. I feel sad for not doing things according to the Fa's requirements.” She didn't say anything else after that.
From that day on, whenever I am in a car, I put the seat belt on regardless of where I am sitting.
This matter gave me a wake-up call for not taking the Fa to heart. I came to realize where I fell short in my cultivation and want to encourage other practitioners who share the same issue to put their hearts into studying the Fa well.
I'd also like to thank the Canadian police officers for their dedication and work ethic.
