Procuratorate Withdraws Case Against Shenzhen City Woman

Dec. 17, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Guangdong Province, China

(Minghui.org) Falun Gong practitioner Ms. Liao Danyin was arrested for carrying Falun Gong books through customs. She was released on October 12, 2018 on bail pending trial. But ten days later, the procuratorate notified her that her case had been withdrawn.

When Ms. Liao was returning to Shenzhen City from Hong Kong on January 8, 2018, customs officers found two Falun Gong books in her backpack. She was arrested and taken to the Fuqiang Police Station in Futian District.

A group of six agents, including officers from the Fuqiang Police Station and the Domestic Security Division, went to Ms. Liao's home the following day. They ransacked her home and seized more Dafa books. They took Ms. Liao to the Futian Detention Center and notified the family that she was detained on criminal charges. Later they moved her to Nanshan Detention Center. She was indicted on January 21, 2018. The police threatened her family members, telling them that they would send Ms. Liao to prison.

Her family went to see the authorities and persistently asked for her release. Because they appealed to have Ms. Liao released, her daughter was beaten and her husband was arrested and held in the detention center for ten days. Her friends and relatives were also harassed.

Ms. Liao insisted that she had not committed any crimes, and so she would not comply with the orders of the detention center guards. She insisted on doing the Falun Gong exercises. The guards handcuffed and shackled her. They gave her only plain rice for meals. Ms. Liao refused to be on forced guard duty at night. As a result, she was subjected to sleep deprivation.

She is now very emaciated.
