(Minghui.org) Ms. Tan Yinzhen, 66, has been persecuted for her faith in Falun Gong so relentlessly over the past 18 years that she has become mentally slow and has a hard time functioning. Despite her condition, the authorities continue to monitor and harass her on a regular basis to deter her from practicing.
In October 2017 the Xishi District Court sentenced Ms. Tan to 18 months in prison for “undermining law enforcement.” Her family received the court's verdict but Ms. Tan knew nothing about it. It bothered her family that a physically impaired senior who could not take care of herself would be convicted on such a trumped up charge.
Ms. Tan became a Falun Gong practitioner in 1996, and her ailments disappeared. Falun Gong is a mind and body practice that has been persecuted since 1999. She was arrested, detained, subjected to brainwashing, and had her home ransacked many times.
On August 25, 2011, the police arrested Ms. Tan at another practitioner’s home. She was detained for two weeks and tortured in a brainwashing center for 17 days before being released.
A woman knocked on Ms. Tan’s door on September 28, 2012, and told her to open it before the police pried it open. As soon as Ms. Tan opened the door, eight people rushed in. They arrested her for practicing Falun Gong. Ms. Tan refused to sign the arrest and search warrants.
She was taken to Wutaizi Police Station. When the detention center officials refused to admit her because she had dangerously high blood pressure, the police called her husband to pick her up that night.
To avoid further persecution, Ms. Tan left home in January 2013. The police and local authorities constantly called and threatened her husband that if he didn’t bring her back, they would mobilize the armed police and treat her as a fugitive.
