Former Chief Urologist Tortured and Almost Killed After Mass Arrest

April 8, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) Dr. Kong Qingchun was arrested at the same time as more than 100 other Falun Gong practitioners in Liaoning Province on June 28, 2016, by police and agents of the 610 Office.

Dr. Kong was taken to the Yaojia Detention Center, where he went on a 37-day hunger strike. Officers tried to force-feed him and severely injured him in the process. He nearly died and was taken to the Dalian Zhongxin Hospital for emergency care. His family was not informed about his critical condition.

He was tried on January 18 and March 15, 2017, by the Ganjingzi Court. Mr. Kong was sentenced to four years in prison in April 2017. He appealed the decision to the Dalian City Court, but the court rejected his appeal and upheld the sentence. He was taken to the Xinrujian Prison in Liaoning and later transferred to Dongling Prison in Shenyang City.

Dr. Kong was beaten in Dongling Prison on November 30, 2017, for refusing to renounce his belief in Falun Gong or do forced labor. His shoulder was fractured, and four of his front lower teeth were loosened by the torture.

Warden Liu Jian and chief guard Yang Ming subsequently directed inmate Yan Bing to monitor him. Yan deprived him of sleep and stopped him from doing the Falun Gong exercises. After Dr. Kong went on a hunger strike, Yan beat him with a rubber baton. (Rubber batons minimize visible wounds but inflict internal injuries and severe pain.)

Dr. Kong, 55, was the deputy chief physician of the urology surgery department of Dalian No. 5 People's Hospital.
