Identification Card Flagged, Harbin Woman Arrested at Train Station and Held in Criminal Detention

Aug. 17, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Heilongjiang Province, China

(Minghui.org) Ms. Ren Xiuyun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin, Heilongjiang Province, has been held in criminal detention for nearly six months after she was arrested because of her flagged ID card at a train station.

Ms. Ren and her husband were about to take the train back home on March 1, 2018 after visiting her ailing brother in Shangzhi, a city about 100 miles away from Harbin, when the security officer noticed her flagged ID and arrested the couple.

Five officers ransacked their home and confiscated Ms. Ren's computer and printer.

Because Ms. Ren's husband didn't practice Falun Gong, he was released shortly after the arrest. But the police continued to harass him at home. Horrified and distressed, he refused to open the door for his family, friends, or local Falun Gong practitioners who were acquaintances of Ms. Ren, when they went to visit him.

Ms. Ren was initially given a 15-day administrative detention by Xiangfangdajie Police Station. After the term expired on March 17, the police changed it to criminal detention and continued to hold her in custody.

Ms. Ren, 69, a retired kindergarten staff member, has been repeatedly arrested, detained and tortured in the past 19 years because of practicing Falun Gong.
