(Minghui.org) A 77-year-old woman in Ziyang City received a seven-year sentence because she refused to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a mind and body practice currently persecuted in China. She was put in a prison despite her poor health and quickly transferred to a hospital as her health deteriorated.
Ms. Liu Shuhui’s family went to Sichuan Provincial Prison in Jintang County on July 30, 2018, after they received a call from the prison authorities saying that the Ms. Liu was in critical condition.
A doctor from the hospital told the family that Ms. Liu’s heart rate was unstable and dangerously low, at 30~40 per minute, and she had a stroke due to lack of oxygen in the brain. She was still put in the prison and then transferred to a hospital.
The doctor also said that Ms. Liu could die at any time and the prison would not be responsible. A representative from the prison said that he would initiate the process to get Ms. Liu a statement from the hospital so that she could be released on medical parole.
Two days later Ms. Liu’s son called the prison about the parole, and was told not to rush the process.
