(Minghui.org) I am what you might call a Western practitioner who never had any contact with the Eastern way of life before I started to practice Falun Dafa. I grew up in the countryside in Bavaria and was very attached to my homeland. While growing up, I had a deep interest in anything technical and all that had to do with physics and applied science. I got a very good education, learned a profession, and studied electrical engineering and computer science. Anything connected to art and culture was of no interest to me.
In retrospect, I would say that it was my destiny to practice Falun Dafa. Master Li Hongzhi's writings were very interesting, especially since I found in Zhuan Falun many principles that had to do with modern physics. That excited me.
Once I understood everything better, the exercises became second nature. When I got in contact with practitioners, one could say that I incorporated cultivation into my daily life and everything just happened normally. I remember clearly the day I noticed that I had changed more than I had realized.
It was a weekend and I was sitting at my desk. Easily, impulsively, and on the spur of the moment, I wrote my first poem.
I wrote:
In the Haze of Fog
A person wanders in this room,Sight clouded by fog, with everything being difficult.Everyone indulging in lust and greed. The principles in reverse, surrounded by filth.
He is searching for peace in his heart.Taunted by foul beings.Every step determines happiness or sadness. The old home is forgotten, but the time is approaching.
The cosmos changes quickly.Past darkness changes abruptly to brilliance. The Heavens turn pure and the new cosmos awakens. The Creator sets the cosmos aright, his creation is complete.
After reading these lines for the first time, I was dumbfounded, but at the same time delighted to have written poetry. My interest in my mother tongue—German—had awakened. I did not stop after the first poem and wrote another 300.
For me, the process I am experiencing while cultivating in Dafa continues to be fascinating. Especially when I look at the direction my art has taken. Practicing Dafa allowed me to turn into a writer of poems. Not only that, my interest in art and culture was awakened, just as I am interested in technical things.
There are times I ask myself, “What would have happened if I had not studied Dafa?” I am certain that, because of Dafa, I have found my creative vein, and my life has been enriched and become more meaningful and interesting.
My thanks go to Master Li, who introduced Dafa to the public and provided Westerners with the opportunity to practice Falun Dafa.
Thank you, Master Li.
