(Minghui.org) Editor's note: Ms. Han Chunying, a Falun Gong practitioner in Changchun City, Jilin Province, has been arrested and detained several times in the past few years for refusing to give up her belief. Her mother passed away the day before she was released from detention, after years of harassment and acute distress at having to witness the police seize her daughter in front of her.
Below is Ms. Han's own account of what she has endured.
Beishan Police Station officers kept calling me in February 2018, telling me to come to the police station. I refused. Several officers then came and arrested me.
My elderly mother was bedridden and unable to move. I saw tears in her eyes when the police took me away in front of her. I had no way to know it was the last time I would ever see her.
When I was released after nearly two months in detention on April 7, 2018, I learned that my mother had passed away the day before.
My sister said to me, “She was thinking and worrying about you every day after you were arrested. If that hadn't happened, Mother wouldn't have died so soon.”
Arrests, Detention, and Harassment
I was first arrested together with four other practitioners on July 28, 2017, for talking to people about Falun Gong. We were detained in Weizigou Detention Center for five days before the police let us to go home.
Two weeks later the police broke into my home and confiscated everything I had that had anything to do with Falun Gong.
They bound my hands to a chair and interrogated me at the police station. I was detained for 15 days in Weizigou Detention Center before I was released because of poor health.
Shortly after that, the police took me to the detention center again, but I was denied admission when I failed to pass the physical exam.
After I was arrested again in February 2018, the police took me to the procuratorate's office and put me in a cage. After I refused to sign their documents to renounce Falun Gong, they took me to the No. 4 Detention Center and detained me.

The guards often verbally abused me because I refused to cooperate with them. Each day felt like a year because of the intense pressure and ever-present fear that I could be tortured at any minute.
Worrying about my safety, my family bribed the police to get me out. I was allowed to go home 55 days later.
But that wasn't the end of it.
About three weeks after I was released, the police came to my home to harass me again. I was out grocery shopping when they came and I saw the police cars lined up near my apartment building on my way home. I walked away and hid. After my husband got home, he confronted the police for harassing me so soon after I had been released. A few hours later, they finally left.
