Woman in Her 60s Sentenced to Seven Years for Distributing Falun Gong Informational Materials

Sept. 15, 2018 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Sichuan Province, China

(Minghui.org) A woman in Pengzhou City was recently sentenced to seven years in prison for distributing materials exposing the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a mind-body practice based on the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance.

Ms. Luo Guiru, in her 60s, was handed the verdict during her second hearing in Pengzhou City Court on September 7, 2018.

Ms. Luo first appeared in court on August 15, 2018. Her lawyer delivered a not-guilty defense on her behalf. He argued that no law in China has ever criminalized Falun Gong and that it is her constitutional right to practice Falun Gong and distribute materials about it. He demanded an acquittal.

Ms. Luo also spoke in her own defense. She described how her health and character both improved after starting the practice. She also asked for an acquittal from the judge. The judge adjourned the trial without announcing the verdict.

After her arrest for distributing the materials, Ms. Luo was first detained at Pengzhou Detention Center and then transferred to Chengdu City Detention Center.
