Belated News: Disabled Liaoning Man Dies of Poverty and Ailment

Dec. 15, 2019 |   By a Minghui correspondent in Liaoning Province, China

(Minghui.org) It was recently confirmed by the Minghui.org website that a Yingkou City, Liaoning Province, resident died in 2013 after years of persecution not giving up his faith in Falun Gong.

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.

Mr. Xu Chuande, who had a hunchback and severe vision problems, was given a three-year term of forced labor in April 2002 for speaking out for Falun Gong.

Despite his physical disabilities, the guards at Yingkou City Forced Labor Camp forced him to sit on a small stool without moving, daily, from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Mr. Xu and 14 other Falun Gong practitioners managed to escape from the labor camp on May 5, 2002. He intended to stay at his sister’s home in Anshan City, about 65 miles away. Fearing the persecution, which was at a heightened point, his sister didn’t dare to keep him, and gave him some cash and urged him to return home.

Mr. Xu returned to his hometown, only to find he was on the police wanted list. He hid in a mountainous area, but was reported and arrested again.

Mr. Xu was later sentenced to four years in Benxi Prison. He was beaten by a dozen detainees and had two of his ribs broken. As he also suffered a lung condition, he applied for medical parole, which was approved.

With his physical condition, he couldn’t find a job, and made a living by picking recyclable trash to sell. After nearly ten years of struggling with poverty and poor health, as well as enduring constant harassment by the police, he passed away on June 24, 2013, at age 46.
