Measuring Ourselves with Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance

Feb. 15, 2019 |   By a Falun Gong Practitioner from China

(Minghui.org) In today's society of deteriorating moral values, Falun Gong gives us hope for life and a way to return to our true home. After having experienced numerous hardships and tribulations, I am walking on the path of assisting Master Li Hongzhi with Fa-rectification. I learned I needed to become a person who thinks of others first and follows the principles of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance. As I do this, I become more kind and tolerant.

My husband and I are both Falun Gong practitioners. We had a conflict one time and after I admitted my mistake and looked inward unconditionally, I found out that I had the attachment of being unwilling to admit that others are better. In a dream, Master Li encouraged me to continue to move forward and hinted that I needed to meet the Fa's standard at each level so that I would not falter later.

Master Li said,

“In our cultivation we need to meet the requirements of a given realm in order to reach that realm. Otherwise you can’t go there.” (Teaching the Fa at the Conference in Switzerland)

In the summer of one year, the weather was very hot. But I felt cold, so I closed the door. My husband was sensitive to the heat, and he couldn't take it anymore. He was angry and said, “It is so hot, and you closed the door!” I was calm and didn't say anything. Instantly, I did not feel cold anymore. I understood my karma fell on my husband. He helped me improve.

Master Li said:

“You can be sure that whoever your karma is distributed to will feel upset about it.” (The Fourth Talk, Zhuan Falun, 2018 Translation Version)

Once I took the bus somewhere I was not familiar with. So I went to the bus door early to prepare to get off for my stop. But the bus driver did not stop. When I told him I needed to get off at the stop, he yelled at me and said I was too late in coming to the door. Seeing his rude attitude, I realized that I must have owed him in a past life. I did not say anything. I must pay back my karma. So I got off at the next stop.

Master Li said,

“So as I see it, the tensions you experience are meant to change your body’s black matter into white matter, virtue.” (The Fourth Talk, Zhuan Falun, 2018 Translation Version)

During reincarnation life after life, who knows who we owed in the past. Conflicts also often occur when we are working with fellow practitioners to help save people. One time a fellow practitioner badmouthed me. I happened to overhear it and knew I was not wrong on the surface. But I realized it was not important to be right or wrong. What is crucial for me is to find my attachments and get rid of them. I might have mistreated her in the past, so I paid her back with this incident.

Whenever I encounter things which anger me, hurt me or harm my interests, I look inwards and try to find my fault. It does not matter whether we are wrong or not. The tribulation may expose our attachments. I understand I must not have done well sometime in the past.

In the spring of 2015, I went with other practitioners to a central bus station to distribute DVDs regarding the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. We got there in the morning. A fellow practitioner found out that police officers were checking on travelers. I thought we should leave earlier that day. But seeing so many people coming off the bus, I knew they were waiting for us to clarify the truth to them.

We distributed the DVDs anyway, and they were quickly taken by the travelers. Several of them also agreed to quit from the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). We later developed complacency, however, because this task was so easy. At that time, seven or eight police officers suddenly walked towards us and surrounded us. I knew our attachments caused this. So we quickly corrected ourselves, sent forth righteous thoughts, and asked Master to protect us. Under Master's protection, we left safely.

We need to always measure ourselves with the Fa's standard. A few days ago, my husband and I reached the age when we can get a free bus pass. The bus company requested that we provide a copy of our IDs. My daughter said she could copy them at work. We okayed it and did not realize there was anything wrong. But later, we realized there are no minor things in cultivation.

Master Li said,

“he is full of great aspirations while minding minor details.” (“Sage,” Essentials For Further Advancement)

We cannot covet a small advantage, so we called our daughter back and said that we would take care of the copying ourselves.

Cultivation is serious and has its standard. Whenever I feel life is hard, I immediately deny the feeling. Cultivation would not meet with success if it were not hard. Thinking of Master's suffering, I can't help but burst into tears. Master has suffered so much for all beings. What right do I have to complain about hardship. If Master did not pass on the Fa to us, would I be here today? I deeply understand that we are under the care of Master every moment. So I will strive to overcome tribulations, get rid of my attachments, and have righteous thoughts and actions.

I realize that Falun Gong disciples in China have great responsibilities. Why is China called the Land of Divine? The connotation makes every Chinese proud. Since ancient times, China has been the center of the world. We have been waiting for thousands of years for today. Our mission has not yet finished. We must continue to get rid of human notions, fulfill our vows, and return to our true home with Master.
