(Minghui.org) A 66-year-old man from Taian City, Shandong Province recently had his arrest approved by the local Procuratorate and is now facing indictment for his faith in Falun Gong.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline based on the principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhang Xinghe was arrested at his home along with his wife, Ms. Feng Yuelan, on December 6, 2018, after he was reported to the police for distributing calendars bearing information about Falun Gong days earlier. The police ransacked the home and confiscated Falun Gong books and related materials.
Ms. Feng urged the police not to follow the regime's persecution policy. They responded by dragging her and her husband into the police van and driving them to Wenkou Police Station.
The police took the couple to the hospital for a physical checkup in the evening and then sent them to Taian City Detention Center.
Ms. Feng was released on bail on January 3, 2019. Mr. Zhang remains in custody. His arrest was approved one week later, on January 10.
Prior to his latest arrest, Mr. Zhang had served four years in prison and two years in a labor camp for not renouncing his faith in Falun Gong.
