(Minghui.org) A 67-year-old woman in precarious health condition has not been allowed to see a doctor because she refused to renounce her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
A prosecutor surnamed Li claimed that Ms. Zhou Yufang, who has been in detention for more than two months, is being denied hospitalization as long as she refuses to give up her faith. He is also planning to file an indictment against her.
Ms. Zhou, a resident of Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was arrested three times between March 2018 and January 2019 for talking to people or distributing materials about Falun Gong.
Although she was released hours later due to poor health after her first arrest on March 21, 2018, the police took her back into custody on December 10, 2018.
Ms. Zhou experienced difficulty breathing and lost consciousness three days following her second arrest. She was taken to a local hospital for emergency treatment, and a notice of critical condition was issued. The doctor said that the cause of her dizziness remained unclear, and that she could die at any time. Her family was warned that she could have a stroke or go into shock.
She was arrested for the third time shortly after she was sent home to recover, on January 4, 2019, after being reported for distributing Falun Gong materials. The police ransacked her home and took her to the Nangou Detention Center that evening.
Her family sought her release, only to be given a run-around between the police and the Domestic Security Division.
According to Ms. Zhou's lawyer, who visited her in February in the detention center, her condition is very concerning. She has lost all of her teeth, had difficulty eating, and become emaciated. She was suffering from a severe headache, neck pain, and dizziness. She could hardly stand up or walk by herself.
Ms. Zhou's family submitted her medical records, appealed to prosecutor Li to drop her case, and demanded she be given a comprehensive physical examination. Li insisted that Ms. Zhou sign a statement to renounce Falun Gong before she's allowed medical treatment.
