(Minghui.org) The case against a Dalian City resident was recently submitted to the prosecutor after it had been twice returned to the police due to insufficient evidence.
Mr. Liu Xiaoxiong, 32, a software engineer in Dalian City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on July 25, 2018 for posting information about Falun Gong on popular Chinese social media platforms.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the communist regime since 1999.
The police first submitted Mr. Liu's case to the Gaoxinyuan District Procuratorate on October 15, 2018. Prosecutor Zou Daming twice returned his case to the police, in December 2018 and again in February 2019. Zou ordered the police to burn the digital data found on Mr. Liu's computer to a CD after returning his case for the first time.
Mr. Liu's lawyer suspected that the prosecutor and the police were attempting to manipulate the data in order to charge his client.
Mr. Liu's family have tried to visit and have called prosecutor Zou over the past several months. To date, Zou has refused to meet or talk with them.
According to China's criminal law, the prosecutor should drop the case if he finds that the evidence submitted by the police for the third time is still not enough to indict the suspect.
Ms. Liu's family is calling on prosecutor Zou to make decisions based on the law and his conscience, and release their loved one immediately.
