(Minghui.org) The Jidong Prison in Hebei Province recently rejected the medical parole of a 70-year-old man serving time for his faith in Falun Gong who suffered a stroke four months ago. He has lost sensation in his body.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Wang Yuansheng, from Jizhou City, Hebei Province, suffered a stroke on April 26, 2019. His right leg became paralyzed. His blood pressure was 180 mmHg. And he couldn't see things two meters away.
The prison authorities didn’t inform Mr. Wang’s family of his condition until months later. They recently rejected the family’s request of medical parole for him, with the excuse that his term would expire in two months.
According to Mr. Wang’s family who recently visited him at the prison, his condition has further deteriorated in the past few weeks. He became paralyzed in his right hand and was unable to eat by himself. He lost a significant amount of weight because of that. He has also become incontinent and isn't feeling well in many parts of his body.
His family also noticed some injuries on his face, but he didn't elaborate whether he was beaten by the guards.
It wasn’t clear whether the prison provided medical treatment to Mr. Wang after he suffered the stroke.
Mr. Wang was arrested on October 20, 2016 after being reported for talking to people about Falun Gong. He was sentenced to three years in prison in March 2017 by Jizhou City Court and sent to Jidong Prison in July 2017.
The guard beat him because he refused to admit he was guilty.
Because of prison expansion, Mr. Wang was transferred from the 7th ward to the 4th ward in November 2018. His wife, sister and daughter traveled to the prison on December 4, 2018, on the visitation day, to see him. The guards at the 4th ward denied their meeting request, with the excuse that the family also practiced Falun Gong themselves and that Mr. Wang had refused to renounce his faith.
When his family demanded to see official documents regarding the rule that Falun Gong practitioners are denied visitation, the guards said that they didn’t have it.
“You can just go ahead and file a complaint against us if you think we’ve violated the law,” they said to the family.
