(Minghui.org) A 41-year-old man serving a seven-year term for practicing Falun Gong was tortured in prison because he still holds firm to his faith.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Pan Feng, a Huainan City, Anhui Province resident, was arrested in April 2018 after being reported for distributing informational materials about Falun Gong. After several months of detention at Huainan City Detention Center, he was sentenced to seven years and later sent to Suzhou Prison.
At around 7 p.m. on August 13, 2019, Yang Baosheng, head of the first ward in the prison, called Mr. Pan into his office. “Do you know about the statements we ask all Falun Gong practitioners to write to renounce their faith?” he asked.
“Yes, I know about it.” Mr. Pan answered.
“Are you writing it?”
“I am not.”
Upon hearing Mr. Pan’s answer, Yang ordered two officers, Zhong Xiaodong and Jian Xiangqian, to handcuff him and hang him up on the wall. Then they beat him with rubber clubs and electric batons. They also kicked him and slapped him in the face.
Mr. Pan was beaten for more than two hours. By the time he was let down, he wasn’t able to walk on his own. He had injuries and bruises all over his body. His eyes also became black.
The police sent him to the prison hospital in the middle of the night, which didn’t have the equipment to treat him and only gave him some IV drips.
Mr. Pan started a hunger strike on the next day to protest the persecution. The police hung him up on the wall a few more times before locking him into solitary confinement on August 17.
In the windowless solitary confinement cell, Mr. Pan was forced to stand facing the wall and only given a small steamed bun for the entire day. He was not given any drinking water. The guards told him to scoop up water from the toilet bowl if he was thirsty. The comforter he was given was very thin and smelled very bad.
It’s not clear how long he was kept in the solitary confinement cell.
Prior to his latest term, Mr. Pan was arrested on June 28, 2009 for distributing materials about Falun Gong, shortly before his wife was due to give birth. He was sentenced to seven years in April 2010.
