(Minghui.org) I am a 60-year-old Chinese farmer with a junior high school education. I started to practice Falun Dafa in April 1997. The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started to persecute Falun Dafa practitioners in July 1999. I was illegally detained and then sent to a forced labor camp. During this evil persecution, I have survived with Master’s protection.
During the time I was illegally detained, many inmates were made aware of the truth about Falun Dafa and helped practitioners whenever they could.
Kindness Awakens People’s Hearts
Several other practitioners and I were arrested and detained in January 2015. In detention I suddenly found myself in a place full of obscene language and sexual promiscuity. While looking inward, I quickly sent out righteous thoughts to clear the environment.
Life in the detention center was very hard and I was only allowed to shop once a week. I bought a lot of food such as ham sausage, instant noodles, pickles, and snacks as the people around me often asked for them. A man from outside the county did not have any money because his family didn’t leave any for him. For more than three months, he used my money for daily necessities until he was sentenced and sent away to prison. A young person from a divorced family had no one to take care of him, so I bought him pickles. When it was cold in January, my family brought me more than 20 items of clothing and other necessities. I let others select what they wanted and took what remained for myself.
As Falun Dafa practitioners, we are kind to everyone we meet. I gave them whatever they wanted. After forging a relationship with the people in the detention center, they started to listen to what I had to say about traditional values.
I told them: “The social chaos today is the result of the constant campaigns launched by the CCP, especially the Cultural Revolution, when all traditional values and culture were denounced. Now, counterfeit goods are everywhere and unhealthy things, such as pornography, gambling, and drugs, are rampant. If you go home, please read the book Nine Commentaries on the Communist Party. Only by quitting the CCP and its affiliated organizations can you be safe in the future.” In my own words and from my own understandings, I also told them how sexual promiscuity destroys people, a Fa principle I learned from Master Li Hongzhi. More than a dozen people understood and changed their indecent behavior. They then quit the CCP and affiliated organizations.
One day the people in my cell told me, “It’s not right that someone as good as you has ended up here! If it were possible, we would be willing to serve some of your time for you.” After hearing that, I could not speak for a few moments, as tears welled up in my eyes. In my heart, I was thanking these precious lives around me. I also thanked Master Li silently for his compassion and for arranging for me to connect with these predestined people.
On May 13th, World Falun Dafa Day, we all sang the song “Falun Dafa Is Good” to celebrate and wish Master Li a happy birthday. Everyone was so happy and said that they had forgotten their pain of being detained.
A Detainee Repents
One man in the cell block thought that Dafa practitioners were superstitious. While I was doing the exercises, he once hid my pages of Dafa teachings that I kept under my pillow. I couldn’t find them anywhere, although I looked all over. Only at the end of the day, before bedtime, did this man return them to me.
This man had symptoms of a bad cold when he got up the next morning and couldn't even eat breakfast. The doctor prescribed some medicine for him, but he vomited it up. By nighttime, he hadn’t shown any improvement. His suffering made me feel sorry for him. It suddenly occurred to me that his problem might have been caused by his hiding the Dafa teachings the day before. When I asked him where he had hidden them, he said, “I hid them under my bed and was sitting on them. That’s why you couldn’t find them.”
“You've done something bad,” I said. “Please sincerely repent for what you have done.” He expressed deep regret for his actions, took the medicine, and didn’t vomit. He recovered by the next morning. From then on, he listened to me clarify the truth and was willing to quit the CCP organizations.
A Guard Protects Dafa Practitioners
One of the guards was aware of the truth. When he was working, he spent time chatting with practitioners. He was easygoing and treated them as his friends. When he was about to leave, he would tell them, “I’m not chatting with you to get you to ‘transform’ but to let other detainees see us together so that they will not dare to harm you. It is for your benefit.”
Detainee Is Touched by Kindness, Sincerity, Tolerance
At night, two detainees were assigned to take turns monitoring us practitioners, who are not allowed to talk to each other and pass on Dafa teachings. If they were caught, the guards would punish both the practitioners and the detainees who were supposed to be monitoring them. So the situation was particularly cutthroat.
After getting to know us practitioners, one inmate was deeply touched by our kindness, sincerity, and tolerance. He said, “This is a really evil place. If I get out of here alive, I will seek revenge.” With our help, care, and truth-clarification, he came to understand the meaning of life. He gave up his intention of revenge and began helping us spread news and deliver notes. He also told us that, while he was doing these things, he had a sense of reverence.
A Detainee Helps Dafa Practitioners Deprived of Food
At times we were punished by having our meals withheld. After learning the truth, a detainee named Fan would put more food in our bowls. He would also give practitioners some of his snacks at night, when others could not see him. The Party uses hunger to punish people and shake Dafa practitioners’ righteous belief.
In the detention center, I realized the significance of clarifying the truth to people. Clarifying the truth can not only save lives but also change the evil environment.
