Yueyang City, Hunan Province: 9 Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested and 2 Harassed in Two Weeks

(Minghui.org) Nine residents of Yueyang City, Hunan Province were arrested and two others harassed by officers from Lou District between March 16 to 28, 2020 for their faith in Falun Gong. 

Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese Communist Party since 1999.

Ms. Fang Yuee, in her 50, Ms. Fu Fanggui, in her 60s, and Ms. Huang Juxiu, a 68-year-old retired auto company employee, were arrested on March 16 and had their homes ransacked. All three were held in a detention facility and interrogated for three days. 

Ms. Fang and Ms. Fu were sent to Hubin Detention Center on March 19 and Ms. Huang to the Yueyang City No. 2 Detention Center. 

Ms. Li and Ms. Ren (a retired teacher), both in their 70s, were arrested on March 18 for talking to people about Falun Gong. They were released later that day after being interrogated.

On March 19, Ms. Guo Danxia, 73 and a retired accountant, was arrested and her home was ransacked. She is currently held at the Yueyang City No. 2 Detention Center. 

Ms. Zhang Lihong, 68, a retired pharmacist, Ms. Li Yulian, 58 and a small business owner, and Ms. Xu Jinxiang, 63 and a retired power company worker, were arrested on March 26, for talking to people about Falun Gong. They were interrogated and then sent to Hubin Detention Center.

The police went to the home of Ms. Wang Liping, 56, on March 28. As Ms. Wang wasn’t home, the police demanded that her daughter provide her cellphone number, a recent photo and also a “guarantee statement” to renounce Falun Gong.

The police also attempted to harass Ms. Ye Zhixiang. As she wasn’t home either, the police threatened her husband, telling him that they would send her to a brainwashing center if she practices Falun Gong.
