(Minghui.org) A Qianxi County, Hebei Province resident is facing trial for her faith in Falun Gong, an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Zhao Guiping, in her 70s, was arrested on July 13, 2019 after the police spotted her talking to people about Falun Gong at a market. Although she was soon released, the police broke into her home at 6:00 a.m. on July 17 and ransacked the place. Everything related to Falun Gong was confiscated, including books, calendars, and other materials.
The police attempted to send her to the Tangshan No. 1 Detention Center, but she was rejected admission due to her health condition. The police kept coming back to harass her after Ms. Zhao was released on bail.
The police came for Ms. Zhao again on July 17, 2020. As she was staying with a relative at the time, the police forced her son to take them to the relative’s home to find her.
Upon finding Ms. Zhao on July 20, the police told her that her one-year bail had expired and she needed to go to the Zunhua City Procuratorate to answer some questions.
The police forced Ms. Zhao’s son to bring his mother to the procuratorate on July 21, as the prosecutor was preparing to indict her. They threatened her son that if he didn’t comply, he would be fined 20,000 yuan and they would force his and his wife’s employers to fire them.
After the prosecutor indicted Ms. Zhao a few days later, her son took her to the Zunhua City Court to answer more questions. She was told that she would face trial soon.
This isn’t the first time that Ms. Zhao has been targeted for her faith. She was arrested twice in the first half of 2010 for talking to people about Falun Gong. She was detained for ten days following her first arrest on January 23, 2010. Five months later, on June 6, she was arrested again, but soon released due to high blood pressure.
