(Minghui.org) A Jinan City, Shandong Province resident was sentenced to prison in late December 2020 for raising awareness about her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Liu Hong, a 50-year-old hair salon owner, was arrested on December 27, 2019 after being reported by a customer for giving out materials about Falun Gong. After 15 days of detention at the Jinan City No.3 Detention Center, she was transferred to the Jinan Detention Center.
The police interrogated her son, around 10, about where she got the Falun Gong materials. They submitted her case to the Laiwu District Procuratorate around October 2020.
Fearing being implicated, Ms. Liu’s family didn’t actively seek her release. They were recently informed of her 1.5-year prison sentence with a 5,000-yuan fine.
Before sentencing Ms. Liu, the Laiwu District Court had just secretly sentenced another four Falun Gong practitioners on November 24, 2020: Mr. Yin Feng was given six years with a 10,000 yuan fine; Mr. Cheng Xijiang was sentenced to three years with a 6,000 yuan fine; Ms. Chen Lianmei was sentenced to two years and six months with a 5,000 yuan fine; and Mr. Liu Xixiu was given to two years and six months with three years probation and a 5,000 yuan fine.
