(Minghui.org) Two Jilin Province residents were recently sentenced to prison by the same court for their faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Yan Liyan, of Qian Gorlos Mongol Autonomous County, Jilin Province, was arrested on September 10, 2019. Her husband, Mr. Chen Hailin, who doesn’t practice Falun Gong, was also arrested. The police confiscated their laptop, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, Falun Gong books and several cellphones.
Ms. Yan was held at Shanyou Detention Center for over a year before being sentenced to ten years by the Qian Gorlos Court.
Another practitioner, Mr. Yu Lei, around 37, is a resident of the nearby Daan City. He and his wife were arrested at around 4 p.m. on December 10, 2019 after their car was blocked by a group of plainclothes officers, who pretended to want to borrow a wrench from them.
Mr. Yu’s car was impounded. His valuables in the car, including high-end tea worth 600 yuan, two pearl necklaces, two cellphones and around 3,000 yuan in cash were confiscated. The police later returned his car, but not the other items. His wife was released after 15 days of detention.
Mr. Yu remained in custody at the Shanyou Detention Center. The same Qian Gorlos Court later sentenced him to three years and six months. He was transferred to the Jilin Prison on December 4, 2020.
