(Minghui.org) A native of Daan City, Jilin Province living in Baicheng City in the same province was arrested in May 2020 and sentenced to a suspended prison term for his faith in Falun Gong. Mr. Zhou Weiliang, around 70, is now monitored by his neighbors and ordered to report to the police every week.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Zhou has been constantly targeted for his faith for the past two decades. He was arrested and had his home ransacked in 2002, and was later sentenced to three years in Jilin Prison by the Daan City Court.
A group of officers broke into his home on October 16, 2014. As he wasn’t home, the police arrested his wife, Ms. Du Shuzhi, and confiscated their Falun Gong books and other personal belongings. As the police stayed at his home to wait for his return, Mr. Zhou was forced to live away from home to avoid being arrested.
The police forced the Daan Detention Center to admit Ms. Du, even though she was found to have seriously high blood pressure. Her children were extorted more than 700,000 yuan by the police, Procuratorate, and the court when they tried to rescue her. She was later sentenced to three years and taken to the Jilin Province No. 1 Women’s Prison in March 2015.
Mr. Zhou later stayed in Baicheng City, which is about 80 miles from Daan. He was quickly sentenced to three years with five years probation following his latest arrest in May 2020. He has now been placed under house arrest and isn’t allowed to contact others. The police ordered six of his neighbors to monitor him. If anyone of them doesn’t follow the police rules, all the others will be punished.
