(Minghui.org) While a 62-year-old woman was serving a three-year term for her faith in Falun Gong, her husband died on the roadside while going out to look for her.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Xiulian from Fushun City, Liaoning Province, was arrested on August 20, 2019, for talking to people about Falun Gong at a local farmers’ market. The police ransacked her home and held her in the Nangou Detention Center.
Ms. Wang was sentenced to three years by the Xinfu District Court in 2020 and is currently incarcerated in the Liaoning Women’s Prison.
After Ms. Wang was arrested, her husband Mr. Zhang Kuiwu, who had cerebral palsy and mental disability, managed to go to the local police station several times to look for her. He often went outside and waited by the side of the road for Ms. Wang to come back.
In the fall of 2020, he went outside as usual only to collapse. He was never able to get up again.
Ms. Wang had polio as a child and suffered from poor health ever since. She credits Falun Gong for restoring her to good health and helping her gain a new outlook on life. But when she told others how Falun Gong had saved her, she and her family were targeted by the authorities.
Another practitioner, Ms. Zhang Qiuxiang, who was arrested with Ms. Wang in 2019, was still being held in the Nangou Detention Center as of April 2020. It’s not clear whether she is still detained or has already been sentenced.
