(Minghui.org) A Jiamusi City, Heilongjiang Province resident was recently sentenced to one year for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Wang Shubo, 56, took up Falun Gong in 1995. She credits the practice for improving her health and elevating her character. After the persecution began in 1999, she was arrested for going to Beijing to appeal for Falun Gong and detained for two months. She was released after the police extorted 7,000 yuan from her family.
Ms. Wang’s latest arrest was on September 14, 2020, for telling people about the health benefits of Falun Gong. The police ransacked her home and confiscated her Falun Gong books, computer, and printer. While interrogating her, the police ordered her to write a statement to renounce Falun Gong. She refused. The police then took her to the Jiamusi City Detention Center.
Ms. Wang was tried by the Xiangyang District Court on December 25, 2020. Her lawyer entered a not guilty plea for her. The prosecutor suggested to sentence her to 1.5 – 2 years. The judge didn’t announce the verdict that day.
On January 18, 2021, Ms. Wang’s lawyer informed her family that the judge had just sentenced her to one year with a 5,000-yuan fine.
