(Minghui.org) A resident of Maoming City, Guangdong Province is facing indictment for his faith in Falun Gong, after his arrest was recently approved.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is an ancient spiritual and meditation discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Mr. Huang Zhufeng, 50, was an award-winning electronic automation engineer. Because he upheld his faith, he was given two labor camp terms and his arms were disabled as a result of torture. He was unable to continue his profession, but had to do odd jobs to make a living.
Mr. Huang was arrested outside of his apartment on December 12, 2020 when he returned home from work. The police ransacked his place and confiscated his Falun Gong books and materials. His wife, Ms. Xie Yuezhen, and their 15-year-old son were also arrested.
At the Zhanqianlu Police Station, the police ordered Ms. Xie to sign a statement renouncing Falun Gong. After she refused to comply, they threatened to take her to a detention center. Ms. Xie and her son were released the next day at noon, after both were forced to sign the renouncing statements. Mr. Huang remained in custody and was transferred to the Maoming City No. 1 Detention Center.
The police and residential committee staff members found Ms. Xie at her workplace on December 21, and questioned where she got the money to hire a lawyer for her husband. Ms. Xie suspected that her phone was tapped, as she had just talked about this with her family over the phone three days prior.
Despite intimidation from the police, Ms. Xie still hired a lawyer for Mr. Huang, who visited him at the detention center on December 24. The lawyer also found police officer Deng Haichao to inquire about his case. Deng revealed that the Procuratorate had just approved Mr. Huang’s arrest two days prior.
Mr. Huang told his lawyer that he hadn’t received the clothing or money his family sent him. He hadn’t changed his clothes for two weeks after his arrest, and the detention center didn’t provide hot water for showering for nearly a week, despite the cold weather.
Meanwhile, the residential committee also pressured Ms. Xie’s landlord to terminate her lease and force her to move out in a few days. The authorities also ordered her to sign another renouncing statement, or they would take her to the detention center.
Due to the tremendous pressure, Ms. Xie’s son, a ninth grader, now refuses to go to school.
