(Minghui.org) A 77-year-old retired teacher was sentenced to three years with three years probation on December 25, 2020, for her faith in Falun Gong, a mind-body practice that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Guo Suling, of Linfen City, Shanxi Province, was arrested on June 4, 2020, after the police suspected her of hanging up Falun Gong banners on the trees. The Quwo County Procuratorate indicted her and submitted her case to the Quwo County Court. The judge agreed to release her on bail. She was released after her family paid a 20,000 yuan bail bond.
Ms. Guo appeared in court on October 29 and was sentenced on December 25. She was also fined 5,000 yuan.
First Prison Sentence
Prior to Ms. Guo’s latest term, she has been sentenced two more times for practicing Falun Gong.
Ms. Guo was arrested on December 21, 2007. The police interrogated her, slapped her in the face, pulled her hair, and kicked her. She was later sentenced to an unknown term and taken to the Jinzhong Women’s Prison on June 16, 2008, where she was often administered unknown drugs against her will.
The inmates beat her head with a shoe and hit her arms and feet with a clothing rack. They also sprinkled liquid drugs on her clothes, towel, toothbrush, shoes, socks, and toilet paper. She felt like being shocked with electricity when she laid down on her bed soaked with such liquid drug on the evening of November 21, 2008, and she sat up all night.
On the morning of Chinese New Year's Eve in 2008, an inmate poured something over her head while she was taking a shower. Her scalp became swollen and was covered in boils more than a centimeter long and two centimeters wide.
On March 13, 2009, one inmate poured some liquid on her seat cushion and clothes. She developed a lump on her buttocks after sitting on it for a day.
Then on August 15, 2009, and March 18, 2010, the inmates put an unknown substance into her food and water, causing her to have a rash on her legs and lower back and her stomach to swell, respectively.
The inmates put a toxic substance in her laundry when she went to the restroom on March 21, 2010. She went to bed after hanging her clothes. When she touched her left eye, it immediately began to hurt. She got up and washed her eye with cold water, but the pain did not go away. She was in great discomfort until 1 a.m. After that, she could not see clearly through her left eye, and it took more than 10 months for it to recover.
Second Prison Sentence
Ms. Guo was arrested again on March 9, 2014. She was released two days later after failing to pass the physical examination.
After the police submitted her case to the procuratorate in May, she went into hiding on June 8 to avoid the persecution.
After two years of displacement, she was arrested on December 27, 2016, in Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province for distributing Falun Gong materials. Although she was released at 2 a.m., the police arrested her again days later on January 9, 2017, only to take her back home on the same day when the Linfen Detention Center refused to admit her due to her health condition.
On July 17, 2017, the police submitted her case to the Houma City Procuratorate, asking that she be prosecuted for her cases in both 2014 and 2016.
Ms. Guo appeared in Houma City Court on November 10, 2017, and was sentenced to 1.5 years. The police took her to the Linfen Detention Center, which again rejected her admission. The police had to take her back home afterward.
