(Minghui.org) A Dandong City, Liaoning Province resident has been released on bail after 15 days of detention for her faith in Falun Gong, a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
Ms. Pan Jing was hosting a birthday party for her 89-year-old mother on September 3, 2021, when a group of police officers suddenly broke in and arrested her and her four guests.
The police later revealed to Ms. Pan’s family that she was reported a month ago for talking to people about Falun Gong. The four guests arrested at her home were also Falun Gong practitioners from the same province, including Mr. Wang Zhe and his sister Ms. Wang Yu of Dandong City and Ms. Guo Shujie and Ms. Hou of Shenyang City.
The police ransacked Ms. Pan’s residence. They also moved her bedridden mother to the floor and then searched under the mattress. Ms. Pan’s printer, computer, Falun Gong books, photo of Falun Gong’s founder, and informational materials were confiscated. Mr. Wang and Ms. Wang’s homes were also searched and their Falun Gong related items confiscated.
While interrogating Ms. Pan, Du Shubao, the deputy chief of Toudao Police Station, accused her of placing a QR code of an uncensored weblink on the car of a director of Dandong Police Department. As Ms. Pan remained silent, Du threatened to tear up her Falun Gong books.
A few more officers took turns interrogating Ms. Pan that night. She was handcuffed in a metal chair and deprived of sleep. No matter how the police shouted at her, Ms. Pan insisted that she didn’t do anything wrong and tried to clarify the facts about Falun Gong to them.
While the other four practitioners were released on the next day, Ms. Pan was transferred to the Dandong City Detention Center.
A prosecutor from Zhen’an District Procuratorate went to the detention center to talk to Ms. Pan on September 16. She maintained that she didn’t violate any law in practicing Falun Gong and emphasized that no law criminalized Falun Gong in China.
On the next day, the procuratorate returned Ms. Pan’s case to the police, citing insufficient evidence. She was released on bail in the evening.
Ms. Pan used to work as an operator for the Dandong City TV Factory. She took up Falun Gong in April 1999. Her many ailments, including rheumatoid arthritis, gastritis, frozen shoulder, migraine and breast hyperplasia, all disappeared within a month. For upholding her faith in the face of the persecution, she was previously arrested seven times and served two labor camp terms.
