(Minghui.org) As part of the “zero-out” campaign aimed to force every Falun Gong practitioner on the government’s blacklists to renounce their faith, the Political and Legal Affairs Committee and 610 Office in the Wuchang District of Wuhan City, Hubei Province, set up three brainwashing centers to persecute local practitioners.
Falun Gong, also known as Falun Dafa, is a spiritual discipline that has been persecuted by the Chinese communist regime since 1999.
In January 2021, the police in Wuchang District were ordered to take Falun Gong practitioners to one of three brainwashing centers: Nanhu Brainwashing Center, the brainwashing center in Care Family Hotel affiliated with Wuchang Police Department (Care Family for short), or the Wutaizha Brainwashing Center.
By October, at least 10 Falun Gong practitioners have been detained in the brainwashing centers, with one 90-year-old being held there during the day for three days in a row and four others held for more than a month. Those who were held there were denied restroom use, barred from washing themselves, deprived of sleep, not allowed to drink water, and only given little food for meals.
Li Jie, the chief of Zhonghua Road Police Station in Wuchang District, and staff members of the 610 Office and local residential committee broke into the home of Ms. Fang Wanggui, 90, on February 27, 2021, and took her to Nanhu Brainwashing Center.
She was ordered to press her fingerprints on a form to renounce Falun Gong there, but she refused. The staff threatened to stop her pension, confiscate her house, and block her children from doing any business. She didn’t budge and was taken home by the evening.
Ms. Fang was taken to the brainwashing center the next morning and sent back home in the evening. On the third morning, Sun Qin, the local community director, led two people to her home and took her to the brainwashing center, where three agents pressed her hands on several forms and claimed that she had voluntarily stamped her fingerprints on the forms.
In addition, seven other Falun Gong practitioners from Wuchang District were arrested on March 11. While four of them were released the next day, the other three, Ms. Tong Li in her 40s, Ms. Zhou Yuying, 83, and Ms. Liu Yunli, 71, were taken to Wuhan No. 1 Detention Center, which refused to accept Ms. Zhou and Ms. Liu. The two elderly women were then taken to the Care Family Brainwashing Center.
Officers from Yangyuan Police Station in Wuchang District and members of Jiangshang Xincun residential committee arrested Ms. Xiong Hanlian in late March. Her son later went to the residential committee to ask for her whereabouts. A staff member told him to pack his mother’s clothes but refused to disclose where she was. Her family learned a month later that she was held at Nanhu Brainwashing Center. Since she refused to renounce her faith, she was locked in a dark solitary confinement cell and given little food. The guards threatened to starve her to death.
Ms. Wu Manzhen, 76, was taken to the Nanhu Brainwashing Center by officers from Yangyuan Police Station on March 29. She was released a month later.
A group of people broke into Ms. Xia Yulan’s home in Wuchang District on May 4 and took her to the Nanhu brainwashing center.
The police intercepted Ms. Liu Meilan at Wuhan Hankou Railway Station on June 18 and took her to Care Family Brainwashing Center at around 2:00 a.m.
Ms. Liu Xiaolian and Ms. Wang Xiaohui were reported to the police when they were telling people about the persecution of Falun Gong at a supermarket on September 13. They were arrested and held at Cuiwei Police Station of Hanyang District. They were taken to the Wutaisha Brainwashing Center the next day and have been detained there since.
The police broke into Ms. Ai Li’s home on September 29 and took her to Care Family Brainwashing Center, where she was held for over a month.
Zhu Zhengxing, former member of the CCP Standing Committee of Wuhan Municipal Wuchang District, former Secretary of Wuchang District Political and Legal Affair Committee, former Party Secretary and Director of Wuchang District Police Department, as well as former director of Wuhan Jianghan District Police Department, actively participated in persecuting Falun Gong practitioners during his more than ten years of service in the police department.
He was suspected of serious disciplinary violations in March 2021 and has been surrendered to judicial authorities.
