(Minghui.org) The use of unknown drugs and injections on Falun Gong practitioners by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) is a systematic, top-down persecution taking place in detention centers, prisons, and hospitals. The following are several examples in Sichuan Province.
1. Fang Hui
Ms. Fang Hui, a Falun Gong practitioner in Chengdu, was a lecturer in the School of Foreign Languages at Sichuan University. She once rode a bicycle along the Qinghai-Tibet Highway to Lhasa and was awarded as one of the top ten young warriors. She was a member of the mountaineering team of Sichuan University.
On the night of November 5, 2002, Ms. Fang was arrested by officers from Chengdu Wuhou Police Department. The police spent nearly an hour ransacking her home. Soon after that, she and her husband were sentenced to 3.5 and 3 years of imprisonment, respectively. They were both dismissed from their jobs.
Ms. Fang was arrested again and detained in Chengdu First Detention Center in 2004. She became very weak from the torture. Later, she was taken to the Qingyang District People’s Hospital of Chengdu and was crippled by injections. When she was released home, her whole body was swollen. Her skin was stiff. Her eyes could barely open. Her speech was slurred. She often had unbearable headaches. She couldn’t lift her legs. She easily fell when trying to walk.
Her family took her to the specialist outpatient clinic of a major hospital. The doctor said her central nervous system had been damaged. The family asked how that could be, but the doctor could not tell them more.
Ms. Fang, who almost lost her ability to speak, was paralyzed in bed for many years. After going through repeated arrests, brainwashing, and sentencing, her life became extremely difficult. She passed away in March 2019.
2. Li Zhongfang
Ms. Li Zhongfang, also from Chengdu City, was arrested while shopping at a local market on August 1, 2017. She went on a hunger strike to protest against the persecution. Prior to her court hearing, the detention center doctor had repeatedly told her family that Ms. Li was in critical condition and her life was in danger.
On the day of Ms. Li’s hearing at the Qingyang District Court on April 10, 2018, the police didn’t bring Ms. Li to the court until 11 a.m., two and half hours after the scheduled time. Ms. Li looked weak during the hearing. Her mind did not seem to be clear, she constantly trembled, and she spoke incoherently. Her relatives and friends present at the hearing suspected that she had been injected with toxic drugs.
Not long after the hearing, it was reported that Ms. Li became mentally ill in the detention center and urinated and defecated on the bed. Yet the detention center still did not release her. She was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison and taken to Chengdu Women's Prison on July 2, 2018.
3. Unnamed Male Practitioner
A male Falun Gong practitioner in Sichuan Province was arrested in 2013 and then sentenced to three years in Jiazhou Prison in Leshan, Sichuan Province. No matter how brutally he was tortured, he refused to give up his belief. A few days before his prison term was to end in 2016, he was given a shot with unknown drugs. A few days later, he lost his speech. Half of his body became paralyzed. He still has not recovered even today.
Forcible Drug Injections at Xinhua Community Health Service Center
The Xinhua Community Health Service Center in Qingyang District, Chengdu, formerly known as Qingyang District Hospital, is a hospital designated by the Chengdu Detention Center to treat its detainees.
Many Falun Gong practitioners who were held at the detention center were taken to this hospital and forced to take unknown drugs. At least 12 practitioners were confirmed to have been persecuted to death as a result. They are Fang Xianzhi, Zhang Chuansheng, Shen Lizhi, Huang Lisha, Hu Hongyue, Gu Chuanying, Chen Guijun, Duan Shiqiong, Deng Jianping, Zhao Zhongling, Huang Min, and Zhou Huimin.
